This year’s ASBO International Conference offered an energizing mix of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and connection—and Banwell Architects was proud to be part of it. Alongside partners from the Springfield School District, Keene School District and Energy Efficient Investments (EEI), our team presented two sessions that highlighted how thoughtful planning and design can directly improve school operations, student wellbeing, and long-term stewardship of facilities. Between presentations, our leaders also had the chance to connect with fellow school business officials and industry partners in a more informal setting, including a fun and memorable networking outing at Topgolf. The conference reinforced the value of collaboration—both inside the session rooms and beyond them.

From large-scale, data-driven Facilities Master Planning to reimagining something as everyday—and as complex—as a high school bathroom, our ASBO presentations shared a common theme: intentional design and planning can solve real problems. Whether guiding major capital investments in Springfield with Richard Pembroke’s first-hand insights or addressing safety, privacy, and student behavior at Keene High School, with Tim Ruehrs’ innovative single-stall restroom concept, these projects demonstrated how adaptable strategies and collaborative teams lead to meaningful outcomes.

ASBO International provided the perfect forum to exchange ideas, learn from peers, and build relationships that extend beyond the conference. We left inspired by the conversations, the connections, and the shared commitment to creating better learning environments—proof that great ideas often happen when thoughtful work and collaboration come together.
