St. Benedict Academy Golf Tournament

Banwell participated in the 6th Annual Saint Benedict Academy Golf Tournament at Stonebridge Country Club; a tournament our office looks forward to attending every year. The tournament is hosted by one of our longtime clients at E.E.I., who hosts the tournament to provide tuition assistance for the students of St. Benedict’s Academy.

This year, our team consisted of three Banwell team members: Matt Giffin, Barbara Parker, and Breanna Lyford, and we were joined by my husband, Mak Lyford. Our team was a bit nervous to tee off this year—as three quarters of us had not swung a club yet this year—but we all played well and had the best day!

On our fifth hole of the day, we each participated in a side bet on ourselves—could we hit the ball onto the green? I was skeptical that I would be able to do it, but it was on this hole that I finally got my golf legs and hit the ball onto the green! This hole was a lot of fun and gave our team a nice boost of momentum that stuck with us for the rest of the day.

On the 11th hole, we decided to test our luck again—only this time in a dart board chipping contest to win a Caribbean vacation. Mak shot 88, the highest score of the day at the time. He hit the bullseye first, the outer bullseye ring second, and another high scoring outer mark third. There were many teams left to try their luck on the dart board, but we couldn’t help but wonder for the rest of day, did we just win ourselves a Caribbean vacation?!

During our last hole of the day, we finished on a high note with an eagle! As a team, we shot 7 under par—a great score considering this was the first time on the course for most of us this year. After arriving back at the clubhouse, we quickly went to check on our dart board score, only to discover that we did in fact win the Caribbean vacation! It is safe to say that this year’s Saint Benedict’s Academy Golf Tournament was one for the books for the Banwell team. We look forward to participating again next year and supporting a great cause!
