Growing up in a small town has many benefits one of which is relying on each other for help. When you do this you can learn so much from your neighbor it creates something wonderful. A common bond and an experience that benefits both sides. I knew Banwell Architects was the right place for me when I went to my first interview. We started talking about the values of the office and how everyone works together. I couldn’t help but smile because in the back of my mind I knew many of those values were ones I used daily.

My first day in the office I felt a bit lost as any new hire would but it was my coworkers who were the ones that assured me that it is fine to ask questions. In fact they encouraged it. This only proved to me that this is a place where I will learn and grow. Going to school at places such as Thetford Academy and Vermont Technical College where Banwell has designed in the past, I have had the opportunity to live and study in those spaces. Now I get a chance to return the favor and create spaces in which students feel comfortable and focused. I love that I will be using my knowledge to further the education for the future generations. Every day is a chance to continue your education as learning is lifelong. Who you are around is who you will learn from. I am glad to have found a firm like Banwell that is so supportive and truly cares about community.

Gang Relaxing

However, my true first day meeting the team was a wonderful experience. The week before I worked in the office I was asked to come on a company outing and meet the team. Seeing that as a good idea I obliged. We drove to the marina and then set out on our boating voyage. Everyone was relaxed and soaking up the sun. Our first stop was for lunch where we all sat around a table like a family and talked about recent events in our lives. Next step after an hour so of exploring it was time to go swimming so we found a nice spot by the shore and one after the other they jumped in. While swimming it was decided to hook up some tubes and get towed around. Fun ensued and some wonderful pictures were taken. It was a laid back and stress free Thursday and our voyage ended with a nice stop at the sand bar just as our time was nearing the clouds rolled in. With certainty I stated, “ I will never have a first day as good as this ever again ” at that point I was ready for work Monday as the newest member of the Banwell team.
