Girl Scouts To Get Her There Luncheon

Jennifer Darling and Cristopher Salomon from Banwell Architects attended the Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains annual To Get Her There Luncheon on Friday, March 27 at the banquet hall at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH. This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Elizabeth A. Talbot, Deputy State Epidemiologist and Infectious Disease Specialist. The Girl Scouts serve more than 15,600 members throughout New Hampshire and Vermont. With the guidance of dedicated and trained volunteers, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through hundreds of programs offered each year, girls develop their leadership potential through activities that enable them to discover their values, skills and the world; connect with others in a multicultural environment; and take action to make a difference in the world.

Banwell was hired to do a comprehensive review of all of the properties the Girl Scouts own in NH and VT (a total of 14 properties). The first project to stem from this master plan is Camp Fansworth in Thetford, VT. Currently in design, the new Dining Hall will be the new heart of their Camp Farnsworth facility in central Vermont. The center seats 250 girls along with camp staff and provides exterior covered seating for an additional 200 overlooking the campus center and lake. The center offers flexible space for dining, conferences and Girl Scout jamborees. Included in the Master Plan for Camp Farnsworth is a new welcome center and maintenance facility. Housing the camp registration office, the welcome center includes a camp store. Included in the welcome center upgrades are renovations to their equestrian center. A prototype of the Tentalos, a tent like cabin, is beginning construction soon. Banwell has designed custom camp facilities for the Girl Scouts which provide the security of solid walls and a roof while keeping with the Girl Scouts traditions and camping experience of sleeping in the open outdoors. The cabins sleep 6 girls, are adaptable to the landscape and can be combined to sleep multiple troops.
